Last Thursday evening Paul Karakusevic was in Madrid for the launch of Joan Clos’s latest book La vivienda social y asequible (análisis y propuestas para un derecho constitucional) / Social and affordable housing (analysis and proposals for a constitutional right) published by Ediciones asimétricas.
Paul wrote the foreword of the publication and at the event he made an opening address drawing the lessons learnt from our work in council housing in London.
The new book analyses the historical evolution of public policy on access to housing in Spain, from the development of the mid-twentieth century models to the dramatic consequences of the real estate crisis of 2008.
Spanish – Social and affordable housing is an essential read for urban planners, architects, clients in the public hosuing sector, political leaders, academics and anyone committed to a decent and more accesible housing within everyone’s reach.
The conversation was moderated by Ana Moreno – president of OnCities2030 and director of the Urban Journalism Institute.
– Joan Clos – formally Mayor of Barcelona, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade for the Spanish Government and Executive Director of the UN-HABITAT, and Under Secretary General of the United Nations.
– Carmen Espegel – Doctor of Architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid and author of “Heroines of Space. Women Architects in the Modern Movement”.
