Later this month Paul Karakusevic will participate in ‘Public Housing, Practice, and Design: New York + London’, a half-day symposium at AIA NY Centre for Architecture exploring the parallel approaches to the procurement, design and delivery of new public architectures across the two cities.
With keynotes speakers Jessica Katz, NYC’s Chief Housing Officer and Tom Copley, London Deputy Mayor for Housing, and contributions from architects, policymakers and design advocates from both sides of the Atlantic, including Paul Karakusevic, Andy Bernheimer, Osama Shoush (Southwark Council), Delma Palma (NYCHA), Pooja Agrawal (Public Practice) and Rebecca Macklis (Public Design Commission), as well as David Burney, Karen Kubey and Brian Loughlin, the event will discuss the current ambitions and agendas for public housing across both cities and the lead role good design plays in civic culture and wellbeing.
As New York and London look ahead to confronting the housing crisis we ask; What does a new municipal culture for housing look like? How can we deliver it? and what role could our housing stock and the fabric of the city’s diverse neighbourhoods play in improving community health, resilience, and equity?
