Pat Ritchie, Chief Executive of Homes and Communities Agency joined Maggie and Hilda of the Colville Residents Association (CETRA), Karen Allcock, Deputy Mayor of Hackney at the Topping Out Ceremony on 22nd February for Karakusevic Carson Architects Bridport Place scheme in Hackney.
Bridport Place is the first phase of the Colville Estate and occupies a prominent corner site that will set the benchmark in design for the remaining sections.
The design overcomes complex below ground conditions and has utilised a solid timber frame (CLT) selected to both help overcome these issues and ensure the building is as sustainable as possible, allowing the structural frame to be carbon zero in construction. The design sets out to provide the highest quality of affordable housing in London and responds to a brief written by local residents and Hackney Council. The external brickwork and facade design aims to achieve the fine balance between elegance and durability in a design that will stand the test of time and exceed the aspirations of local residents.
Pat Ritchie said ” It was a real pleasure to come along and see the topping out of Bridport House. Our funding of £3.4m is enabling the council to increase its provision of affordable homes, all of which meet our high environmental and design standard. So residents will not only benefit from brand new homes, they may also find they’ll be using less energy”.
